A person who self-blames may view any negative situation as a direct consequence of

their perceived incompetence.

Personalization may lead to feelings of guilt, shame, and inadequacy.

Example: I was late to work because of a road accident, but I should have known that in advance.

Tip: See if you can reattribute some of the responsibility to another factor. 

Reframe: I could not have predicted that there was going to be a crash on the road.
