Assuming another person’s thoughts or beliefs. Interpreting another person’s thoughts or feelings without sufficient or adequate evidence.

Example: She did not wave back when I waved to her from across the street, so she must dislike me.

Tip: It’s impossible to know with 100% certainty what another person might be thinking unless they tell you.

Reframe: I don’t know for sure why she did not wave back, so I should follow up with her later to clarify what’s going on.
